Those collectors editions

Not every game releases with a collector's edition, but many blockbuster games do. Additionally, unique games in style, mechanics, or gameplay also receive such prestigious editions. Now, if one is a collector, then the best collector's edition games belong in any fan's library.

Updated August 23, 2022, by Michael Llewellyn: As with any other medium, gamers can be avid collectors of their favorite genre or franchise. JRPG fans, for example, will often collect every major and niche release from Atlus or aim to complete their Suikoden collection. Many fans recognize the value and enjoyment that can be taken from collecting rare and expensive sets for their favorite games. Whether it's looking nice on the shelf or financial investment, this list has been updated to include more of the best video game collector's editions that are worthy of a place in any gaming fan's collection.

The award-winning Tales of Arise was released with the intention of revitalizing the series and making it accessible to newcomers without alienating longtime fans. For dedicated fans and collectors of the series, Tales of Arise launched with an expensive but beautiful boxed set.

Released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Growlanser Generations is a compilation of the tactical RPGs Growlanser 2 and Growlanser 3. The collection came in two sets. The first was the standard two-disc set and the second was the deluxe edition. Both versions are valuable, but the rare and limited Deluxe Edition is in a league of its own.

The collector's edition included a 12.8-inch Soldier 76 statue, a visual sourcebook, the soundtrack, and several pieces of in-game cosmetics. This collector's edition started at $130, but can now be found at higher prices. This edition of the game is certainly something collectors should try to obtain because it is one of the most influential games of the last decade.

The collector's edition of Death Stranding includes a life-sized BB pod statue. One can now have their very own baby in an amber jar. It also comes with a steel bookcase, a keychain, and a cargo case. There are also a few in-game pieces of content players can equip. This collectors edition would help out a cosplayer with a Sam Porter Bridges cosplay.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is arguably the best Assassin's Creed game to date. Ubisoft has reimagined the stealth action-adventure series as a full-blown RPG. The game was also released with a few different collector's editions, but the one players should be trying to obtain is the Pantheon Edition. This edition started at $219.99 and featured one of the best statues on this list.

The Resident Evil 2 remake was a contender for 2019's game of the year. It was a beloved game reimagined with modern mechanics and graphics. The game did not just release with a standard edition, however. RE2 also hit fans with a collectors edition that featured a slew of in-game content and physical items to display.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the New York Yankees star said he would be in the game and also grace the cover of its more premium versions. In a post detailing the move, the PlayStation Blog also revealed more about what to expect from those expensive editions.

Collector's Edition is a compilation of several installments from The Legend of Zelda series. It features both games released for the NES and Nintendo 64, with the former including revised texts fixing the original mistranslations, a demo of The Wind Waker, and various promotional videos.

Although the game mentions "sound irregularities" on the disc as a result of emulating Majora's Mask on the GameCube, no mention is made of the game freezing. This is a common issue encountered less often when not using the rumble function. The framerate of the Collector's Edition version of Majora's Mask is also lower than the 20 FPS framerate of the original game. The problems could be caused due to the game's reliance on the Expansion Pack. Majora's Mask also presents a high number of graphical issues, such as the blur effect commonly used during cutscenes either not disappear or not loading entirely. As Ocarina of Time does not use the Expansion Pack used by Majora's Mask, less problems occur. It, however, does experience some minor emulation issues, such as lens flares and other special effects not appearing. Both games also experience another issue. Under normal circumstances, opening the inventory menu will capture the screen and add it to memory before opening the menu so it can appear on top of the game screen. Emulators have difficulty adding this image to the memory, thus, the game will appear to freeze for a couple of seconds before the menu opens up. While this image is being removed from memory as the menu is closed, the game also freezes for a short time. In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, there are graphical glitches where fake specular highlights on various shiny objects may have warped and incorrect UV mapping. This is most evident on objects such as Heart Containers and the armor of Iron Knuckles.

Hey, friends. Remember Cuphead? GamesBeat sure does. Studio MDHR, publisher Iam8bit and distributor Skybound Games have an incredible new trailer detailing both editions of the notoriously difficult platformer. Both are coming to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

"This special collectors' edition of Magic: The Gathering contains all 302 cards from the original Deckmaster series of playable trading cards. The complete set is augmented with duplicates of the many land cards, making a total of 363 cards. These cards are produced in a special collectors' format with square-cut corners and gold borders. So pick up the Magic: The Gathering Collectors' Edition and explore the whole world in one box."

"Originally we were only going to do 10,000 factory sets, and we announced it that way. But then sales started coming in for WAY more than that. And then it started to take off in Europe. So, we decided to print another 5,000 for distribution primarily overseas, and call those the International Editions. Originally we intended to sell the Collectors Edition ones only in the US and Canada, and the International Editions only overseas. But then the printer shorted us nearly 10% of the print run, i.e., nearly 1,000 less than what we ordered, on the Collectors Edition cards. And, as I said, we had orders for way more than 10,000, to begin with, so the distributors (and consequently the retailers, and consequently y'all) were already pissed off (or would have been) at being pro-rated. Rather than pro-rate them again, we substituted in some of the International Editions."

The premium versions include the Collector's Edition, the Jackie Robinson Edition, the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition, and the Digital Deluxe Edition. PlayStation and developer San Diego Studio will donate $1 to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for every copy sold in the US through the end of 2021.

The Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition ($100) comes with a New Era 9FIFTY Jackie Robinson hat and a SteelBook case, along with a digital version of the hat for use in the Diamond Dynasty mode. The premium editions also come with various in-game DLC including allotments of Stubs and Diamond/Gold packs for the game's Ultimate Team-style mode.
